I have been skiing for 11 years. Courchevel is really the coolest and most advanced! I have been there twice already and will fly again this year. I would like to share my recent travel experience. Both times I came via Lyon.
Yes, this airport is a little further from Geneva, but in terms of time and price, it has always been convenient for me to take tickets to Lyon. In general, it's not the point. I must say right away that the road from there to Courchevel is not easy. At what plan? If you are going to save money and take public transport, then this is of course a dubious savings. Yes, in terms of money it may come out cheaper, but you will kill a lot of time. And even more so if you have your own equipment, then you will also hesitate to carry it around. A direct flight, more or less convenient, is available only on weekends by bus for 70 euros. But it still needs to be guessed in advance in order to get to it. If you arrive on weekdays, then you will have to get there with a bunch of transfers. Three train changes to Moutiers, then a taxi or bus. Same issue with the bus. If you want adventure, you can certainly take a chance. But I have never traveled like that. I read forums, listened to friends, I decided that this option was not for me.
So it turns out that it is most convenient to get there by car. Here you can take a taxi, you can order a transfer (at first I didn’t see the difference at all), you can rent a car.
You have to be careful with rent. If you are sure that in the winter in the mountains on an unknown track you will be able to drive a car well, then ok, no question. But more often than not, I heard stories about cars being returned with scratches, or a few extra hours stuck on the road, as they went astray.
About taxis and transfers. Here I thought that in principle everything would be the same. On my first visit, I decided not to bother and took a taxi. Well, I thought I wouldn't bother. As a result, it turned out that due to the large luggage (I had a suitcase and a bag with equipment), I would have to pay extra. I arrived at 11 pm, for which they again threw it. The driver can't explain himself properly. You can barely speak English, you explain everything almost on your fingers. Drove and thank God. We drove for about 3 hours, gave 400 euros for the money.
On the second trip, I swore off taking a taxi. I started monitoring transfers to Courchevel and found this site bycar.
Immediately noticed the difference in money. It was better here. While talking with the operator, I found out that they would not take any additional payments. Well, ok, I think we'll see on the spot. As a result, I really paid exactly as much as I booked for. The second time I already knew the airport and, in principle, I could have found a car myself. But the driver met me right at the exit from the arrivals area. Unlike the previous taxi driver, this one spoke English well)))
We arrived at the hotel also faster than last time. Somewhere in 2.5 hours. Moreover, I was struck by the fact that they really drove to the entrance. That is, so that you understand, not every taxi driver still wants to drive up. Now it is immediately obvious that this season I will order a transfer, and it is here)) So guys, do not save on comfortable trips. Book transfers and you will have a great start to your holiday! All steep slopes and drive this winter!!!
