Skiers and snowboarders from around the globe flock to St. Moritz to enjoy its renowned slopes. Many travelers arrive at Zurich Airport, from where they typically hire a taxi or arrange a transfer to reach their hotel in this iconic ski resort.
Drivers almost always travel along the A1, A3 and A13 autobahns, along the left bank of Lake Zurich. The total length of the path is 228 km, you can cover it in 3 - 3.5 hours (traffic jams and snowfalls affect).
Begin your journey at Zurich Airport by taking the A51 and driving approximately 3.5 kilometers. Afterward, bypass Zurich by following the A1 autobahn to the left. However, if you encounter significant traffic delays or the tunnel is closed due to an accident, consider an alternate route through Zurich’s city center.
From there, you can either follow the A3 along the left shore of Lake Zurich or, if traffic proves challenging, take road No. 17 along the right shore.
Once you’ve traveled about 170 kilometers from the airport, leave the A3 and continue for around 58 kilometers through a series of tunnels and autobahn sections to arrive at St. Moritz.

A trip from Zurich Airport to St. Moritz, like any other, cannot be fixed in time. Its duration is influenced by various factors: day of the week, time of day, holidays, school holidays, repair work. In winter, the trip may also be determined by weather conditions, since the roads pass through mountainous terrain.
If you take the short route, in good weather conditions and without significant traffic, you can get to St. Moritz in 2 hours 45 minutes. The distance is 228 km.
On weekdays, in the morning and evening (8:00-9:00 and 17:00-18:00), there may be increased traffic, which will increase the travel time by about 1 hour and the total time will be 3 hours 45 minutes.
Public holidays in winter in Switzerland are 25 and 26 December, 1 and 2 January. On these days, traffic may be much higher than usual.
During school holidays, the number of cars on the roads also increases significantly. This season, school holidays will last from 23 December 2024 to 6 January 2025, from 8 to 16 February 2025 for first-graders, and from 22 to 30 March 2025. Please take this information into account when planning your holiday and transfer. The trip on these days can take up to 4 hours.
Tourists take quite a lot of luggage on vacation in winter. Any luggage takes up space, so it is very important to provide information about it in as much detail as possible. Based on this information, we select a car for transfer. So, what types of luggage exist. Suitcases.
Suitcases.
Suitcases can be divided into 4 types by size:
Small - up to 53 cm in height, up to 36 cm in width and up to 24 cm in depth.
Medium - up to 63 cm in height, up to 41 cm in width and up to 27 cm in depth.
Large - up to 70 cm in height, up to 47 cm in width and up to 30 cm in depth.
XL - up to 80 cm in height, up to 54 cm in width and up to 33 cm in depth.
Cases with skis and snowboards.
Often tourists take their own sports equipment. These are most often skis and snowboards in cases. They come in two types - soft and hard. Sizes may vary.
Soft covers are easier to fit into the trunk. Even into a passenger car. They are deformable. Their length usually reaches 1.7 m.
Hard covers are not subject to deformation and have wheels. All this complicates loading into the trunk. Such covers fit only into the trunks of minivans and buses. Their length can reach 2.1 m.
There may be other types of luggage: baby strollers, bags with boots and helmets, animals in carriers, various packages, and so on.
Any luggage takes up space, so we strongly recommend that you indicate it in the transfer application. This guarantees comfort and safety during the trip, and will also help to avoid fines for improper transportation of luggage.
The comfort and safety of your transfer depends entirely on the correct choice of car. To select it, we are guided by the data provided by tourists, and select a car based on two parameters: capacity and class.
Cars and crossovers. The most compact cars for small groups of tourists with a small amount of luggage. For example, Skoda Superb, Mazda CX5, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mercedes E class and S class cars can comfortably accommodate up to 4 passengers, up to 4 medium or large suitcases, several units of carry-on luggage. Skis in a soft case will also fit in the trunk.
Vans and minibuses. Much more roomy cars. Such as Renault Trafic, VW Multivan, Ford Tourneo, Mercedes V class. They usually have up to 7-8 passenger seats and a fairly large trunk that can accommodate up to 8 suitcases of different sizes, several covers with skis or snowboards, several units of carry-on luggage
Buses. The most roomy type of car. As an example, we can cite the Mercedes Sprinter bus. Usually buses have 12 to 20 passenger seats and a very large trunk. This car is suitable for a group of tourists with up to 18 suitcases of different sizes, sports equipment in hard or soft covers, a lot of hand luggage and other baggage. If the trunk is not enough, you can additionally rent a luggage trailer.
We would like to repeat once again that not only the comfort but also the safety of passengers will depend on the correct choice of car.
Unlike capacity, the car class is a personal choice of the client. The car class determines its comfort, price, presence or absence of additional options.
Economy class. Ford Focus or Fiat Scudo cars are typical representatives of this cheapest class of cars. The level of comfort in them is also minimal. The interior trim is the simplest and there are no additional options.
Comfort class. VW Passat, Skoda Superb, Renault Trafic and VW Multivan are examples of comfort class cars. The transfer price is higher, the comfort level is also higher, the interior trim materials are better than those of the economy class.
Business class. Examples of business class cars: Mercedes E class and Mercedes Vito. Prices for such cars are higher than for economy and comfort class cars, since the comfort level for each passenger in them is quite high, and more expensive materials are used in the interior trim.
Premium class. Mercedes S class and Mercedes V class cars are premium class cars. This is the most expensive and luxurious class of cars, where special attention is paid to the individual comfort of passengers. In such cars there are many additional options for a more comfortable trip. For example, Wi-Fi connection, bottled water, individual climate control.

You can pay for your transfer in several ways. Do not forget that several services are included in the cost of the trip.
Taxi is the One of the easiest options to get from Zurich to St. Moritz. You can easily find a taxi when leaving the airport building . All their cars are Toyota brands, white with an illuminated “TAXI” sign.
Unfortunately, you will not always be able to order other brands of cars besides Toyota Rav4 or Toyota ProAce. Therefore, a taxi may not be suitable if you need a more comfortable car, or if you have a lot of luggage and skis and want to go in a car with a large trunk.
Taxi drivers do not always speak English. If you don't know German, it's best to prepare beforehand so you can explain the location (including the exact address and name of the hotel).
The cost of a taxi is high, it is usually more expensive than a transfer about twice.
The price you pay at the end of the trip depends on traffic jams, the amount of luggage, the day of the week and the time of travel. The price consists of the following points:
4.2 CHF per 1 km
+7 CHF boarding
+1.7 CHF per 1 minute of waiting
This way you can roughly calculate the cost of your taxi trip from Zurich Airport to St Moritz. Suppose you arrive in the afternoon, you have two passengers and you have two small suitcases. The length of the road is 228 km and the wait in traffic jams will be approximately 20 minutes.
Taxi price = 228 km * 4.2 ₣ + 30 min * 1.7 ₣ + 7 ₣ landing = 957+42.5+7 = 1006 CHF
It’s the cost of a small car. The price will be much higher for van rides with large groups carrying lots of luggage and skis in the evening or on vacation.

When tourists planning a route to the St Moritz ski resort, they should know that there are several nearby airports that are most convenient for getting to the hotel.
from Milan Airport (Malpensa - MXP) - 187 km;
from Zurich Airport (Flughafen Zürich AG - ZRH) - 208 km;
from Munich Airport (Franz Josef Strauß - MUC) - 314 km.
Not far from St Moritz there is a small Engadine airport. Mostly private flights fly here.
St. Moritz is a favorite vacation spot for tourists who love respectability and comfort. Among all the Swiss resorts, it is in St. Moritz that the largest number of five-star hotels is located. This resort is included in the list of the best ski resorts in the world. The slopes of St. Moritz have hosted four Alpine Skiing World Championships and two Winter Olympic Games. The skiing season in St. Moritz opens at the end of November.
First-class service and high quality tracks, infrastructure, as well as luxury hotels and restaurants - all this is the obvious advantage and dignity of the resort. Along with this, this is the main disadvantage of the resort - the price of rest is not affordable for every traveler. But nevertheless, you can organize your holiday in such a way as to combine holidays in a neighboring resort and skiing on the slopes of St. Moritz.
Corviglia is the most popular of all the ski areas. There are mainly blue and red runs here. To get to other areas, you need to take a bus or car. Freeriders are very fond of the Lagalbe area. There are not many prepared trails here. For vacationers with little experience in skiing, the slopes in the area of descent to the town of Potrezina are suitable.
St. Moritz is one of the resorts where it is interesting not only to ski, but also to relax culturally. The city has preserved many sights. This region is very rich in historical and cultural terms. Therefore, if you want to spend your time as richly as possible, we recommend taking excursions or going on independent trips around St. Moritz. As an apres-ski holiday, the resort has spa centers with swimming pools, fitness, gym, as well as beauty and relaxation treatments. Tourists can go ice skating, play polo on ice and even golf.

This is not the first time we have traveled with your company. This time, the choice of vacation spot fell on Switzerland and, of course, we immediately booked a transfer with you. As always, the service is excellent. We had a wonderful and comfortable ride. Thank you for the service and good luck to you!

The fastest transport that will take you to St. Moritz is a helicopter. The flight takes about 55 minutes. But you should remember that helicopter flights are limited primarily by weather conditions. In the winter season, this is important, since the weather in the mountains is changeable. In addition, the helicopter has a limited carrying capacity and a small trunk. For those who travel with a lot of luggage, this type of transport is not suitable. Its cost is also several times higher than other types of transport. The best time to travel is by toll road. This distance is 228 km and you can travel it in 2 hours 45 minutes on average.
Yes, you can get to St. Moritz from Zurich Airport by train, making several transfers (at least two). For example, the best route would be Zurich airport - Zurich BH - Landquart - St-Moritz. Without transfers, the travel time will be a little over 3 hours.
Different carriers offer different prices. The cheapest option is an economy class taxi - it costs from 600CHF. You will have to pay extra for child seats and large luggage. A comfort class taxi will cost about 700CHF, and a business class van costs about 850CHF.
By train: The cheapest way to get to St. Moritz, although not the most convenient, as there is no direct train on this route. The fastest way includes 2 transfers (in Zurich BH and in Landquart) and at least 3 hours on the road, not including the transfer time. The cost of the trip is from 36.40 CHF.
By helicopter: The fastest way to get to the resort is by helicopter. The flight lasts about 55 minutes. It should be noted that this is the most expensive type of transport. Renting a helicopter costs from 4500CHF. This is a very capricious transport, as it depends on weather conditions. In addition, the helicopter does not take a lot of luggage on board and the number of passenger seats is limited - a maximum of 6 passengers.
By private transfer: The best choice for organizing a trip from Zurich Airport to St. Moritz. Both in price and in travel time. The cost of a transfer by car for 4 passengers is 410CHF. Travel time is on average 2 hours 45 minutes.
By taxi: The duration of the taxi ride is the same - about 2 hours 45 minutes, but the cost is higher - from 600CHF. If you are traveling in a group of 4 people, then an individual transfer becomes even more advantageous in price.
The shortest route by motorway is 228 km. There are also other routes, for example, the motorway along the border with Austria and Liechtenstein. This route is 40 km longer and is 270 km in total.
You can never say in advance how long the trip will last, since many factors affect the time: time of day, day of the week, weather conditions, repair work, etc. In favorable weather conditions and normal traffic, the trip takes about 2 hours 45 minutes. During the morning and evening rush hours on weekdays, there may be increased traffic, which adds another 1 hour to the travel time. If you are traveling on public holidays or school holidays, there will be increased traffic everywhere. These are the days from December 23 to January 6, from February 8 to 16, and from March 22 to 30. The trip on these days can take up to 4 hours.
